JBT Corporation Control Systems Engineer in Virginia, United States

The company has a strong team-oriented culture where we work in a fast-paced environment as collaborative problem solvers to reliably deliver on our commitment to customer satisfaction The role will consist of modifying and developing the control software, wiring schematics and documentation for the company’s range of standard and bespoke, high-speed packaging machinery; whilst also providing support to the service department, both remotely and on site across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Responsibilities Visit customer sites to assist service with systems related installations and breakdowns Ensure all machinery has latest standard software before shipping Solve snags reported by the machine assembly department Assist the machines department to thoroughly test machines that have had software updates Assist the service department and customers remotely with systems issues Document and log changes and job reports in detail PLC Programming Reading, writing, and verifying PLC programs for all PLCs (predominantly Mitsubishi). Writing basic ladder logic for inputs, outputs, errors, etc. Integrating with third-party equipment using inputs, outputs, relays, etc. Setting up and issuing standard PLC programs configured to machine specifications. Ensuring the reliability and efficiency of basic ladder logic. Monitoring basic ladder logic to effectively troubleshoot issues. HMI Programming Set up of standard HMI projects for the range of equipment. Configuring controllers to communicate with different PLCs and safety controllers. Handling pages for error messages, pop-ups, etc. Understanding tags and selecting appropriate data types, including gains for timers. Implementing basic visual dynamics such as visibility, enable, move, and color. Configuring multi-text displays based on PLC tags. Utilizing Alarm Server and Audit Trail functionalities. Implementing security levels for different users. Setting up multiple languages in the HMI. Handling recipes and understanding which settings should be recipe-based. Using toggle switches, numeric input, dropdown boxes, etc. Safety Systems Modifying basic safety circuits to add a guard switch or E-Stop button. Reading, writing, and verifying safety programs with programmable safety controllers. Monitoring and troubleshooting basic safety systems. Issuing standard circuit diagrams and programs for the standard range of machines. Circuit Diagrams and Documentation Creating standard circuit diagrams for the range of equipment. Performing basic modifications to add sensors, actuators, drives, motors, etc. Logging all changes in version log documents to a high standard that facilitates understanding of changes in the future. Strong Electrical and Electronic knowledge required to ensure accuracy and compliance when designing circuits.
