Major Responsibilities:
Reporting to the SeniorMarineFire Boat Captain, this position is responsible for the operation of the Toronto Fire Boat Service for the purpose of firefighting and rescue work in the waters of Toronto Harbour and Lake Ontario and for maneuvering the Fire Boat during firefighting and other emergencyoperation:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Being in charge of the vessel, the conduct of the crew while aboard and the duties of the crew other than when engaged in actual firefighting.
Works in conjunction with the Firefighter Captain at emergencyincidents
Instructs and directs crews in all matters relating to navigation and docking asrequired.
Oversees the maintenance of the vessel during the period of operation under his/herdirection.
Performs other related work asassigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possesses a minimum of Master 500 Gross Tonnage-Domesticlevels.
Experience directing emergencyoperations.
Experience in ship and small vessels (ie. tug boat, etc.)handling
Possession of a Radio Operator's certificate of a restricted radio-telephonecategory.
Successful completion of Marine Emergency Duties and Simulated Navigationcourse.
Post Secondary school education or an approved equivalent supplemented by courses and experience
Experience directing and overseeing acrew.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skill along with good judgement in public and personnel relations.
Ability to make clear, precise decisions in accordance with establishedpolicy.
Ability to prepare detailed comprehensive reports and complete and maintain accuraterecords.
Knowledge of all relevant by-laws andlegislation.
Assets:
Possession of higher weight certificate than specified above would be considered anasset.
