Who we’re looking for:

Join the pack at the JP! Wolfspeed is looking for a Process Engineer to join our Wafer Operations Process Engineering team at the world’s largest silicon carbide manufacturing complex in Siler City, North Carolina.

In this role you will drive continuous improvement in the Global Materials organization through focused initiatives on yield, cycle time, and cost reduction. You will utilize data to drive actions and own multiple projects that improve the equipment and process overall effectiveness.

This posting is for a position that will directly support operations at the John Palmour Manufacturing Center for Silicon Carbide, our expansion site in Siler City, NC. The person in this role will train at our Durham, NC headquarters initially and will move over to the new site once ready.


The Day-to-Day:

  • Provide engineering support for existing and new Epitaxial reactors and processes.
  • Own new tool qualifications, support Equipment automation & Integration and FDC.
  • Monitor SPC charts and respond to trend shifts/abnormal processing events.
  • Data driven process decision making based on timely and thorough data analysis.
  • Process improvement through designed experimentation.
  • Lead yield improvement through identification and elimination of yield limiters.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and training of Junior engineers and process technicians.
  • Develop/improve SOPs to disposition wafers and recover equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to drive capability and manufacturability improvements.

This Job is Right for You if You Have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (Preferably Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Material Science, Physics or Chemistry).
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in semiconductor HVM.
  • 5+ years in semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, or process engineering role.
  • Working knowledge and experience of applied statistics (SPC/DOE) and structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, 5 whys, A3 and DMAIC in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy and as part of a team, taking ownership of tasks and projects.
  • Willing to work in both non-cleanroom and cleanroom type environments.
  • Experience with highly automated material handling systems.
  • MS Office suite proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Semiconductor processing experience in Epitaxy or thin film
  • 8+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, or process engineering role with Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years with Master’s degree or 3+ years with Ph.D.
  • Strong self-motivation and project management experience
  • Broad semiconductor experience, having worked across multiple process modules
  • Computer programming experience with SQL, JMP, MS Access, or similar database and analysis software
  • Ability to interface with people of different backgrounds and at every level of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong track record of effective problem-solving, good engineering judgment and decision-making
  • Ability to lead a team that can manage multiple projects and multitask effectively
  • Strong drive to produce results in a timely fashion and have strong sense of competitive urgency
  • Experience with VB.NET programming and SQL
