This position will provide leadership, technical expertise, decision making, managerial and supervision for the final design section of District 6 Program Delivery. The position will:

  • Provide management direction, supervision, and engineering guidance to Senior Engineers, Engineering Specialists, Engineer Specialist Seniors, Graduate Engineers, Technicians, and Consultant Engineers ensuring that final design documents for in house projects and consultant projects are prepared in a timely manner, with high quality and meet all commitments made during preliminary design.

  • Manage resource needs for the final design section including development of final design business plan for the delivery of in-house projects and a business plan for oversight of consultant delivered projects.

  • Provide management, leadership, and technical expertise for locally initiated county & city projects impacting state highways.

  • Serve as the technical expert for program delivery final design activities, independent quality assurance reviews for all District 6 projects, development of post construction lessons learned district reports.

  • The person in this position will also serve on statewide and district technical committees providing final design expertise for projects, policies, and process improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for Engineer Principal, applicants must meet all the following:

Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Three (3) years of post-registration engineering experience at the Engineer Senior level (or equivalent) that demonstrates all the following:

  • Knowledge of civil Engineering principals, practices, and techniques sufficient to develop final design documents and plans based on department, state, and federal specifications, design standards, and procedures.

  • The ability to lead and direct the work of design project teams in meeting project goals.

  • Experience with MnDOT design standards/plan content and the ability to prepare complete working drawings and specifications for construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Construction and Contract Management experience.

  • Experience with and/or the ability to use CADD software; CONNECT Edition OpenRoads Designer or similar.
