Catastrophe Model Developer - Wildfire

Become a member of an international team within Aon – Impact Forecasting that develops wildfire catastrophe models! The team is based in Prague and Boston.

What the day will look like

• Your responsibility will be numerical simulations - fire spread models.

• First, you will work on a stochastic Canadian wildfire model - large multi-year project starting now. Therefore based on your background and experience, you will have chance to learn from the team or influence the methodology from the beginning!

• Model development involves finding and processing relevant geo-datasets (terrain, land cover, vegetation, etc.), running numerical fire-spread models and scripting.

• As the catastrophe models are complex, communication within the international and interdisciplinary team is essential part of the work.

  Skills and experience that will lead to success

• Coding skills, as large datasets require automation (scripting) - currently we use Python with libraries numpy, scipy, pandas and geopandas.

• You should know numerical models suitable for simulating fire-spread and be able to practically apply them.

• Knowledge of fire spread models is a significant advantage.

• Proficient communication skills in English.
