EHS Supervisor

Position Description

Job Summary

2nd Shift - 2pm-11pm

3rd Shift - 11pm-7am

What’s the job?

  • The EHS Supervisor demonstrates core skills, which includes understanding the company safety policies in adherence of theCorporate Principles ofConduct and Action.

  • The EHS Supervisor is a key resource to the facility with a focus on employee safety.

  • Reports directly to the EHS Manager and has the primary responsibility of supporting all health and safety improvement efforts at the CertainTeed, Norwood (Granules/Shingles) facility.

  • Complete daily EHS assignments that are assigned by the EHS Manager

  • Monitor employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure compliance with all site safety policies

  • Identify safety hazards and provide interventions to eliminate or reduce hazards

  • Audit job safety analysis, risk assessments, and work permits on a routine basis

  • Support safety meetingsand trainingwith the production crews

  • Participate in the Production Meeting held with the Site Leadership Team and Site Supervision

  • Communicate all safety opportunities and observations to EHS leadership

  • Track TF1 - TF5 events. Assist theEHS Managerin determining the mitigation plan for any action items that develop from the TF Events

  • Use internal tracking systems to report leading and lagging safety indicators

  • Assist with tracking of EHS metrics as needed

  • Work with operational leaders to enforce safety standards Work with the EHS Manager to help lead and direct the activities of the Safety Committee

  • Track and follow up on EHS corrective actions. Provide follow-up communications to employees who are involved or reported the EHS concern prompting the corrective actions

  • Audit and support all contractor control programs for conformance

  • Support new hires andcheck in on their comprehension and compliance to safety program expectations

  • Support production personnel with PPErequirementsResearch: Identify root cause by gathering information about a problems by communicating and working with other team members, consulting subject matter experts or acquiring knowledge through your own research Analysis: Analytical skills to understand problems and effectively develop solutions to help distinguish between effective and ineffective solutions.

  • Decision making: Be able to make a decision about how to solve problems that arise. At times and with industry experience, you may be required to make a decision quickly. Escalate issues to EHS Manager as necessary.

  • Communication: Be an open communicator, talking to production employees, supervisors, engineers or other plant leaders on a daily basis.

  • Dependability: Solve problems in a timely manner or communicating when timelines to implement solutions will be extended.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field; additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience: 3 years’ previous experience within the general industry health & safety field

  • Must have a basic knowledge of OSHA standards and regulatory compliance requirements

  • Must have a basic knowledge of Lean Thinking, 5-S and Six Sigma (including statistical process controls)

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all levels of the organization

  • Must have adequate skills in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Must have the ability to recognize and prioritize various tasks/projects at the same time

  • Must obtain the ability to build teams and manage change

  • Must lead by example, maintaining integrity of the Safety/EHS Management Systems

  • Must be able to work 8 to 12 hours on his/her feet, lift 30 lbs. on a repeated basis and climb safety ladders when necessary to complete various tasks within the position.

  • Must be able to participate in Hearing Conservation Program and Respiratory Protection Program which includes, but is not limited to, medical evaluations and testing.

  • Experience with collective bargaining units is preferred but not required.

Must be able to work either 2nd Shift, 2pm-11pm or 3rd Shift, 11pm-7am
