The Population Health (PH) team within Healthcare Economics – Medical Informatics is looking for an established health economics professional to join the team as a Senior Healthcare Economics Consultant. This role provides analytic support for complex and cross team analyses of population health strategies within the commercial, fully insured business, as well as the Medicare Advantage business. The successful candidate will act as a major contributor in the development, deployment, and measurement of tactical and strategic plans of action related to the PH team’s two core functions: 1) develop, deploy, and support state-of-the-art predictive algorithms to identify right member, right time, and right program, and 2) evaluate the effectiveness, efficacy and efficiency of our clinical programs using rigorous methods and advanced statistics.

Primary Responsibilities:

Positions in this function will be responsible for researching and investigating key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. Develop and improve quantitative data analytics and set performance targets. The main responsibilities will include:

  • Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements

  • Identifies solutions to non-standard requests and problems

  • Solves moderately complex problems and/or conducts moderately complex analyses

  • Works with minimal guidance; seeks guidance on only the most complex tasks

  • Coaches, provides feedback, and guides others

  • Acts as a resource for others with less experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacoeconomics, health services research, economics, health economics, public health or a related quantitative discipline

  • 5+ years of experience with data reporting and analysis

  • 3+ years of experience with SAS or SQL

  • 2+ years of experience with healthcare data

  • Proven ability to measure and report Financial Impact of Clinical Programs

  • Proven ability to perform Healthcare Affordability Analytics

  • Proven ability to perform Financial Forecasting and Trend Analysis

  • Proven ability to perform Standard and Ad hoc Reporting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacoeconomics, health services research, economics, health economics, public health or a related quantitative discipline

  • PhD degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacoeconomics, health services research, economics, health economics, public health or a related quantitative discipline

  • Experience in predictive analytics (SAS Model Studio) and data science with an ability to derive value from data and information

  • Advanced reporting skills using software like Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, Cognos

  • Proven record of peer-reviewed publication

  • Proven excellent written and oral communications skills

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
