The Advisory team within the Wealth Solutions Group (WSG) supports the development, structuring and documentation of structured note transactions. The successful candidate for this Associate level position will be a lawyer with 1-3 years’ experience who possesses strong communication and analytical skills. This role is an opportunity for a results-driven professional to join our team, grow their skill set and be exposed to a challenging role in capital markets.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Trading floor liaison with internal and external transaction control and approval functions

  • Providing transaction expertise for structured notes and other products across a number of underlying markets

  • Working closely with a number of internal partners, including Structuring, Sales, Trading, Legal, Compliance, Treasury and Taxation Division on new product development initiatives

  • Ensuring transactions and products are structured to achieve legal, regulatory, tax and operational objectives for CIBC and its clients

  • Overseeing the structuring, execution, settlement and ongoing maintenance of existing and new structured note transactions

  • Leading initiatives with various internal and external stakeholders to achieve cost reductions and operational efficiencies, including integration and maintenance of ongoing legal document automation initiatives

  • Assisting the Sales team in building new strategic partnerships with distribution partners

  • Working effectively within CIBC's corporate governance practices and policies (e.g. Risk Management, Finance, Human Resources, Legal and Compliance) to ensure all potential risks are appropriately addressed and that CIBC legal/reputation issues and shareholder objectives are covered, and to promote the firm’s vision, mission and values

Who You Are

  • Lawyer with 1 to 3 years’ experience with a large transaction-oriented UK law firm

  • Emphasis on securities law and/or corporate finance

  • Knowledge of structured products and derivatives markets would be required

  • Experience with UK Public Offer programmes would be considered an asset

  • Proven ability to pay close attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills

  • Working knowledge of PC applications (Excel, Word, Power Point)

  • Ability to thrive in dynamic and ever-changing market environment
