Job Description

Lead a process team responsible for reducing product and process variation through the use of Six Sigma / statistical tools and the implementation or improvement of existing procedures and process controls.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending upon site specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Process Improvement: Initiate, implement and support new equipment and process upgrades to minimize scrap, increase productivity and improve quality. Assure improvements are sustained.

  • Manufacturing Support: Provide support to manufacturing to resolve production and quality issues that arise on a day-to-day basis.

  • Safety: Promote safety as the most important value in the organization by contributing through training, process improvement and other EH&S responsibilities.

  • Quality Assurance: Promote product quality by partnering with suppliers and developing specifications. Provide input to the manufacturing organization regarding product fitness for use. Understand customer needs and expectations.

  • Leadership: Be an active member of the Greenfield support team. Help in the development and training of Greenfield associates. 

  • Manage a team of 2-3 Process Technicians and or Engineers responsible for the finishing department.

  • Provide emergency support for significant operational issues when they occur. Must be accessible by phone 24/7. 

  • Be available by phone at any time for process support questions.

  • Interact with the Maintenance and Engineering team to ensure equipment reliability and assist with the resolution of problems.

  • Support and manage standard work related to your department such as work instructions, process control documents, calibrations, and management of change.

  • Responsible for performance metrics specifically on the slitting and packaging equipment.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner.

  • Investigate and resolve work-in-process problems.

  • Recommend and implement improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters.

  • Monitor assigned operations to assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards.

  • Optimize the effectiveness of support staff such as maintenance and engineering resources by providing guidance and tracking progress of improvements in an effort to focus and prioritize resources on your assets.

  • Implement process improvements to meet quality standards, perform feasibility studies, and solve process problems.

  • Design and develop procedures for processes such as unwinding, splicing, web guiding, tension control, winding and other material-processing operations.

  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.

  • Develop, analyze and apply material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.

  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.

  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering required (Mechanical preferred)

  • Six Sigma experience desired

  • 4+ Years engineering experience

  • Demonstrate working knowledge/experience in Process optimization, web handling, and/or Knowledge of SPC and other related quality control methods.

  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Lotus Notes, Minitab, and function specific software.

  • Must be dynamic, proactive, energizing, can-do attitude, credibility and ability to create and foster strong working relationships with all levels of the organization and team player

  • Proven ability to accomplish goals by delegating through teamwork.

  • Proven change agent and process expert on your assets

  • Balance of strategic and tactical thinking skills

  • Strong organization and attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written skills

  • Ability to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.

  • Knowledgeable on process documentation and improvement
