OPERATOR

SEWER DIVISION, WATER and SEWER DEPARTMENT

SUMMARY:

Assists Senior Operator in performance of any combination of the following tasks pertinent to controlling operation of the plant or performs various tasks as directed. May be scheduled to work on any shift, and/or required to perform overtime work. Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent. Monitors gages, meters, and control panels. Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. Extracts samples and performs routine tests and routine analysis as required. Keeps simple records. Mixes chemicals required in treatment. Cleans pumps, keeps work area clean and neat. May operate forklift as required. Performs routine building maintenance work such as painting, window cleaning, custodial work, snow removal, etc. Performs the Senior Process Operator's tasks when required. May be required to perform Semi-Skilled Craftsmen work when necessary. Perform ordinary mathematical procedures through standard practical applications.

WORKING CONDITIONS

: Work in both inside and outside environments. Exposed to weather, fumes, odors, and dust. May be exposed to toxic conditions. Definite risk of bodily injury. Medium work; involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, visual acuity, depth perception and color vision.

QUALIFICATIONS

: High School graduate/GED and 1 year practical experience in wastewater treatment plant operations. Possession of CT Class I and II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators License highly desirable; or shall obtain State of CT Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License within 1 year from date of hire, and shall obtain State of CT Class II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License within 30 months of date of hire. Requires knowledge of processes and equipment involved in wastewater treatment. Ability to maintain and evaluate records. Must possess exceptional communication skills. Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software. Requires valid CT Driver License.

TYPE/SCHEDULE:

Full-time, 40 hours per week. May be scheduled to work any shift. May be assigned to be on-call in rotation (effective upon Department transitioning to first shift operation) with other qualified employees in the Division upon completion of the probationary period.

SALARY:

$29.45/hr. (07-01-24 increases to $30.19, then $31.69 @ 6 months, and $33.30 @ 1 year.)
